Just a quick update…

The band is currently busy rehearsing towards our spring and summer concerts and we have two new dates to add to the events calendar

• Saturday 9th June – Summer Concert Rugby Field, Pontardawe.
• Saturday 18th August – Summer Concert Art Centre, Pontardawe.

Gwaun Cae Gurwen Band Monthly Lottery Draw – The draw will take place at the bandroom on Friday evening 27th April 2012. All monies and entry tickets must be in by 7.00 pm on the Friday night of the draw.

Gwaun Cae Gurwen Band had reason to celebrate this month when they took delivery of new instruments following a successful application from the Communities First Trust Fund Scheme which is administered by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

The band members and their Musical Director Colin Hogg are very happy to have received the funding. Chairman Marshall Evans commented “It’s great news for the band and it will make a real difference to the players as it will help to improve the sound and presentation of the band too.”

The band plan to utilise old instruments in an expansion of their junior/training band so that young people and trainees can enjoy low cost music tuition. After a busy Christmas schedule the band are now busy in preparation for the 2012 Welsh Regional Championships Competition at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea.

Once again our Annual Christmas Concert was a great success and the band was well received by a large audience with highlights of the evening being the presentation of awards. Richard Lewis (Repiano Cornet) received an award for ‘Player of the Year’ presented by Colin Hogg Musical Director and a second award was presented to Ffion Halfpenny (Solo Horn) for the ‘Most Improved Player 2011′ Congratulations to both players.
