Formed in 1892 from a small welsh mining village of Gwaun Cae Gurwen, the band also know locally as “Band Y Waun” is a thriving and successful brass band with a busy concert schedule. The band is a traditional contesting brass band currently placed in Second Section.
Gwaun Cae Gurwen Band provides brass instrument tuition to players of all abilities; young visitors might be interested in our Junior Band. We often feature the junior band (still supported by their main band members) at our annual christmas concert.
If you are looking to engage with a local brass band to perform at a function then please contact our secretary who will be happy to discuss your requirements, contact details are available on our contact section.
The Senior Band rehearse on Tuesday and Friday evenings at the bandroom 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm. Junior Band Rehersals are also held at the bandroom every Tuesday evenings 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm
Instruments & uniforms are provided free of charge however a small fee of £1.00 per practice is asked to contribute from the junior band towards the upkeep of the bandroom and maintenance of instruments and the purchase of new music. Senior band members pay an annual membership fee which goes towards annual insurance of band instruments. Other financial commitments have to be met from band earnings, fund-raising and donations.
